North Carolina Military Historical Society Mission Statement

The mission of the North Carolina Military Historical Society is to promote the study and preservation of this state's military history and to tell the stories of the brave men and women who created the proud heritage and traditions we honor today.

The North Carolina Military Historical Society is a tax exempt, 501©3 historical organization that honors the State’s rich military history and traditions by recording the bravery, sacrifices, and challenges of Tar Heel service members and the military events in which they participated from the Colonial period to the present.

The Society collects and preserves military artifacts, photographs, papers, and other memorabilia related to the State and its service members, and promotes the study and appreciation of North Carolina’s martial history and the role played by this State and her veterans in every conflict in American History.

Education is a primary goal of the Society. Membership dues fund the semi-annual publication of the Society’s magazine, “Recall,” which is provided to all members, as well as to a great many libraries across the State. These funds also help provide for the operation of the “North Carolina Military History Museum” located near the Fort Fisher State Historic Site at Kure Beach, North Carolina.
